Giselda

Image information

Description

This time it's a 30x30cm linen canvas with a layer of polystyrene in the back and a wooden frame.

After drawing a picture of Giselda I scanned it, printed it and used a very soft pencil to blacken the backside of the print. With a hard pencil I then transfered the outlines to the canvas. Next I painted the background with water colours. (Regular water colours for school, not the more expensive artist water colours. I looked it up on the net and linen is not very suited for true water colours.)

Next I used acrylics to paint Giselda. When doing owlie I noticed the white polystyrene showing through here and there so I also painted the parts that will be covered with sequins later. I only added some light reflexes and shadows to her hair and skin, as basically everything else will be sequins. Although I'm not sure yet how that will look around her hands. At first I didn't plan to cover the egg. In retrospective I should have given her a large bouquet of flowers instead of the egg but I was so uninspired about a motif for a very long time and when I came by the little doodle of Gisi and an egg in the gallery I finally decided for that without thinking too much about it. Also, it was still Easter...
