The Pit Fighter was a separate hero pack. He's a run-away gladiator and thus has to spend gold all the time to buy himself freedom. Also, he can only wear his special armour which has to be bought in separate parts. So he has no use for most armour from treasure cards and can never be as heavily armoured as the barbarian or dwarf. For a while he can heal with a potion, too.
